Which fire alarm system is the best option for a heritage building?

The best system for your heritage property will depend on its characteristics. With Fire Systems Services, our team will conduct a thorough site survey or ask you to provide a specification in order for us to understand the small details of the building. This will allow us to design the most effective system for your property.

Conventional fire alarm systems

Our conventional fire alarm systems could be the option for you if you’re on a budget. Each zone links to the control panel on their own circuits.

Addressable fire alarm systems

Addressable fire alarm systems make intelligent use of technology. All devices communicate on one circuit to the control panel. This makes for a reliable system throughout the whole property.

Wireless fire alarm systems

Wireless systems are brilliant for preserving how your property looks. Without the labour of wiring, it can also work out as a cost-effective option.

Hybrid fire alarm systems

If your heritage site has multiple buildings, a hybrid system can allow the devices to communicate with one another. Blending a wired system with a wireless one makes for an effective and reliable solution.

What else can Fire Systems Services provide you with?

Why stop at a fire alarm system? For the most effective fire safety strategy, there are other elements that your property could benefit from. After your installation, we carry out fire commissioning and testing. This provides regular reassurance that your systems are functioning effectively. We can also train your employees to train your systems themselves, meaning that between your maintenance, you can test your systems for issues. We offer fire extinguisher servicing within your maintenance plan, making sure you can control the outbreak of a small fire should it come to it.

Our accredited engineers

Our team has worked hard to achieve our standard of work. We are fully qualified and accredited, with experience in sectors such as hotels, construction and healthcare. We work hard to make sure our standard of work never wavers and is consistently high. We constantly train our engineers to keep up with the industry, benefitting your heritage building beyond measure. We always design our systems according to a fire risk assessment, making sure that your fire safety is tailored to the specific risks that your property might present.

Case study: Ashridge House

Ashridge House is an incredible heritage property that’s been standing for over 700 years. It has held many purposes over the years, such as being the Royal residence to Henry VIII and Elizabeth I and operating as a military hospital in both World Wars. It now has over 150 hotel rooms, a gym and a swimming pool, and can be rented to host world-class events. This property has a large amount of foot traffic, is always busy, and is extremely valuable in the heritage sector. Maintaining their fire alarm systems allows us to increase their fire safety, protecting this impressive property for the future.

Our work for Ashridge House

  • In all the estate buildings, we maintain the fire alarm systems.

We’ve been working with Ashridge House since 2020, regularly visiting the site and servicing the fire alarm systems. We make sure that the property is kept safe and that the systems are appropriate and up to date for the risks within the location. This will mean less property damage and risk to life in the event of a fire.

The in-depth details

Communication with our client

Collaborating with our client was very important for this project. Due to the heritage status of the property, there was the possibility that there would be certain regulations that differed to other projects. To determine our course of action, we conducted a site survey around Ashridge House. This enabled us to view the site and its characteristics, as well as inspect the existing systems, increasing the efficacy of our services for the client.

Challenges we faced and how we conquered them

Working in a heritage property, we had to be mindful of the condition of the property and the age of the fixtures. Ashridge House is a Grade I listed property; it must be protected and our work within it has to prioritise preserving its aesthetic. To overcome this, we take extra care when we maintain their fire alarm systems, never disrupting the environment and creating minimal dust. We leave the property how we found it.
